Recently, a biologist in Yosemite National Park was fired after hanging a massive transgender pride flag, a symbol that today represents not only transgender identity but also a broader spectrum of gender ideologies, including nonbinary claims from “El Capitan”(the famous granite monolith in Yosemite). She defended her act as “a personal expression,” but the deeper reason lies in her own identity claim: she identifies as nonbinary—believing she is neither a woman nor a man. Because she rejects the gender God created her with, she saw this public display as a necessary protest and a declaration of self.
This rejection of God’s created identity shows up in different forms. Some, like the biologist, deny being either male or female and call themselves nonbinary. Others insist on being transgender—rejecting the sex they were born with and trying to take on the identity of the opposite sex. Some even claim to exist outside male and female altogether. In every case, it is not simply confusion but rebellion against God’s design, replacing His truth with human feelings, and leaving the heart without anchor or peace. But the Word of God speaks with clarity and certainty: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27). From the beginning, gender was established not as a spectrum or a human choice, but as a divine design—male and female, created in the image of God. Only by receiving this truth can a person find their true identity and lasting peace.
The Rebellion of Transgender and Nonbinary Identities
If transgender identity rejects the sex God gave by trying to take the other, nonbinary identity goes one step further: it denies the very existence of male and female altogether. A person who identifies as nonbinary claims, “I am neither a man nor a woman.” It is like stripping off the garment God has given and declaring that no garment exists at all. The latter is not switching sides, but rejecting the entire order of creation itself.
At their core, whether nonbinary thinking or transgender rejection, both are a direct assault on God’s design. They seek to erase the distinction God declared from the beginning and to replace truth with a blurred spectrum of human feelings. By doing so, they both undermine the foundation of human identity, leaving the person adrift without anchor or definition. What was meant to be clear and life-giving becomes confused and empty.
This denial also cuts at the very heart of God’s image in humanity. For God created mankind in His likeness as male and female together. To erase that distinction is to erase what He has made most precious. It is a deeper rebellion, not only against one’s own body, but against the Creator Himself.
The Cultural and Legal Assault
The confusion of individuals is tragic, but the greater danger lies in how this confusion is being weaponized. In many places, laws and cultural pressures are being shaped to push teenagers, adults, and even children into transgender or nonbinary paths. Hormones are prescribed and surgeries performed, sometimes even without parental consent. This is not compassion; it is coercion. It is a deliberate assault on God’s creation, aimed at binding both the young and the vulnerable in lies that will scar them for life.
The consequences are devastating and often irreversible. Bodies are altered, identities distorted, and futures destroyed. Many grow into adults who live in endless struggle—unable to find peace, often filled with regret, and stripped of their God-given capacity to bear children. By silencing reproduction and confusing identity, the enemy strikes directly at God’s blessing of life itself.
Yet Scripture declares with unmistakable clarity: “And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” (Genesis 1:28).
Here we see the highest dignity of mankind: God created us in His own image and likeness. Because of this supreme worth, He entrusted humanity with a unique role—to be His stewards, under His authority yet over all creation. To be male and female is not a trivial matter of biology; it is the foundation of this divine calling. To erase or corrupt that design is to assault the very image of God and to strip mankind of the precious identity of being His steward on the earth.
Conclusion: The Only Way Back to Truth
Both transgender and nonbinary identities reveal humanity’s deep refusal to accept God’s design. Whether by exchanging His gift or erasing it altogether, these paths all end in confusion, emptiness, and bondage. The cultural forces that push people—including children—into such deception only magnify the destruction, seeking to blot out the image of God from the earth.
But there is hope. The gospel of Jesus Christ restores what sin and lies have broken. In Him we find not only forgiveness but also the true identity we were created for. He makes us new, and by His Spirit we can live in the freedom of being who God designed us to be—male or female, made in His image, entrusted with His calling.
The world offers endless identities and promises of self-made freedom, yet they all lead to despair. Only Christ brings the truth that sets us free (John 8:32). To return to God’s design is not to lose ourselves—it is to find, at last, who we truly are.
